About Our Counseling Program:
The school counseling program at Willow Springs is designed to help all children reach their fullest potentials. The role of the school counselor is to address any academic, social, or emotional concerns students may have so that they can inevitably become more successful in school.
The school counseling program at Willow Springs Elementary offers the following services to students:
1) Short-term Individual Counseling:
In order for school counseling services to be appropriate, the problem must be one that is interfering with the child’s learning or affecting his/her school relationships. Generally, the number of sessions with the school counselor is 4-6 individual sessions, however this amount may not be necessary.
2) Group Counseling:
Small groups, consisting of approximately 4-6 students, are offered throughout the year. Each group focuses on a particular topic and activities are designed to help group members acquire new skills to better cope with their situations. The following groups may be offered:
Divorce/Family Separation
Grief
Anger Management
Worry/Stress
Friendship/Social Skills
Self-Esteem
Academic Success
Family Deployment
3) Classroom Guidance:
Counselors also teach teach guidance lessons to entire classrooms during students' Specials.

Kindergarten: Social Skills
1st Grade: Work Habits
2nd Grade: Friendship/Character Education
3rd Grade: Organization/Study Skills/Bullying Prevention
4th Grade: Conflict Resolution/Respecting Others
5th Grade: Career/Self-Esteem/Middle School Transition
* Additional topics are selected on the basis of the guidance curriculum and teacher requests.
Counselors are also available to parents for consultation, assistance with parent-teacher conferences, and referrals to community resources.
